Opuntias grow with water, right temperatures, right soil and sufficent attention.
They show a remarkable abilty to come back from cold, scorching heat or neglect. But if you treat them well, they will surprise you with growth, flowers and some more growth.

Cylindropuntia imbricata "Parrot" (535)

This particular plant comes from southern New Mexico. It was part of a population of colour variants, which all have bigger flowers than normal imbricatas. In nature, this population was destroyed by a fungal infection, and has not recoverd.
The plant is tall growing, and has a flower part yellow, part pink and part red. The flower colour varies depending on temperature and growing conditions. This plant needed to bit bigger than other imbricatas in my greenhouse to flower, and the stem appears more open.

Stems are spiny. Plants are usually purple, but there are other flower colours. Most plants are biggish.
